Mantua, Castiglione delle Stiviere and Solferino have played an important role in history, with the Gonzaga dynasty and also in the nineteenth century during the creation of the Italian Nation through bloody battles where also the idea for the Red Cross is born thanks to the sympathetic imagination of Henry Dunant, after the Battle of S. Martino and Solferino due in June 24th 1859.

Arrival in Mantua to visit the Ducal Palace, Residence of the Gonzaga and the historical centre. An interesting itinerary can be followed about the women who have participated as protagonists in the history of Mantua like the mythological founder of the city Manto, the countess Matilde of Canossa, Barbara of Brandenburg, Isabella d'Este, the Blessed O. Andreasi and Lady d'Arco.
In the afternoon transfer to Castiglione by bus along Curtatone and Goito, a locality where important battles for the unification of Italian were fought in the nineteenth Century.

In the Trivulzi Longhi Palace visit of the International Museum of the Red Cross.

In it there are collected documents, surgical instruments, litter and camp equipment witnessing past and present activities of the Red Cross in the World and a message of solidarity and brotherhood is delivered as well.
 
Transfer to Solferino to visit to the Charnel House and the little Museum dedicated to the Italian Unification wars. From the "Spia d'Italia" tower there is a top view from Lake Garda, through the morainic hills to the large Po plain.
