The visit of Mantua will start at the Ducal Palace, official residence of the Gonzaga of Mantua. In the 15th C. it became one of the most cultured courts in Europe. Among the other important artists, writers, thinkers, and musicians being drawn to it. Vittorino da Feltre in 1422, at the invitation of Gianfrancesco Gonzaga, Marquis of Mantua, to the city of Mantua, opened a school to tutor the marquis's children like Ludovico Gonzaga and his wife to be Barbara Brandenburg, who acted as regent after his death in 1478 and was highly respected by Andrea Mantegna. In the Castello S. Giorgio we will also consider the great personality of Isabella d'Este, Marchioness of Mantua. She patronized and promoted the arts, allowed writers, artists and poets to exchange their ideas in her Court. She set an example for women and by doing this and many other things and she was known as the "First Lady of the Renaissance." Welcoming her guests in the Studiolo, Grotta and Giardino segreto. Her adviser, the Beatified O. Andreasi lived very close to the Ducal Palace and her home is a little private museum. Walking in the historical centre we will remember all the women who played an important role in the local history, and discover more and more local female proud. The best lunch suggestion is, of course, Al Pescatore, one of the top Reataurants in Europe, where Nadia Santini is the Chef! |
