The Camposanto is a Medieval monumental cemetery considered unique for its cycle of XIV-XVII c. frescoes.

It was a cultural must for European travellers to come and visit this marvellous collection on what was called the ‘Grand Tour’ till the end of the XIX

In July 1944, due to a bombing, the 40% of the original frescoes was destroyed and later partly restored.
Modern visitors can get into a deeper knowledge of this cycle of frescoes through three different stages:

a visit to the Camposanto where, thanks to a sophisticated and meticulous restoration, some of the frescoes have been recently displayed on their original position
a visit to the Sinopie Museum, a superb exibition of the frescoes preparatory drawings found during the restoration process. A unique cycle that shows the development of the medieval drawings through two hundred years
a visit to the Museo dell’Opera Primaziale with its collection of XIX c. etchings, made by Carlo Lasinio and son, reproducing the whole cycle of frescoes as they were before the bombing.

Entrance fees:- not included - 3 monuments: (Cathedral, Museum of the Sinopie and Opera Museum): € 8,00 March to October / € 6.00 November to February
