PIENZA AND MONTEPULCIANO Through the steep and clayed land named "the Sienese Crete", we visit Monte Oliveto Maggiore, an abbey founded in 1314 by Bernardo Tolomei, a member of Tolomei family).

There is a magnificent cloister frescoed by Signorelli and by Sodoma; the church was decorated with an extraordinary wooden choir inlaid by Giovanni da Verona, who planned also the library.

Following the old Roman route, the "Cassia", we reach Pienza, the "Jewel of Renaissance", quite rebuilt by the Pope Pius II,

who was born here in 1405. It's possible to visit the Cathedral and the nice and romantic streets and alleys. The city overlooks the Orcia Valley and here we can taste also the local product: Pecorino cheese.

In the afternoon we reach Montepulciano in order to visit Piazza Grande, surrounded by stately buildings which date back to 16th century which are evidence of the economical development of the city after the medicean conquest: palazzo de' Nobili Tarugi, Palazzo Contucci, the Town hall.

Entrance fees not included. Tour can be customised according to your wishes.

Lenght of the visit: the whole day
