Cannaregio is among the most populated districts of Venice. We will walk along its fondamenta to admire some beautiful facades of old palaces, such as that of Palazzo Mastelli, also known as Palazzo “del cammello” and we will visit two gothic churches : Madonna dell’Orto and Sant’Alvise.

Tintoretto, who lived nearby, is buried in the Church of Madonna dell’Orto and he executed some works for this church, among them La Presentazione al Tempio della Vergine, (Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple), L’adorazione del vitello d’oro, (Adoration of the Golden Calf) Il Giudizio Universale (Last Judgement).

In a gothic-style architecture and baroque ornaments in the interior, the Church of Sant’Alvise hosts the following works by Giambattista Tiepolo: La Salita al Calvario, (Climb to Calvary) L’Incoronazione di Spine (Crown of Thorns) and La Flagellazione (The Flagellation).

The tour will end in the ancient Jewish Ghetto. Those wishing to visit the synagogues, will need to specifically book the tour with the Jewish Museum’s guides.
